Introduction

Owning to the full-text and growing database of theses and dissertations and other scientific resources (Ganj), IranDoc launched the similarity-check system to enhance research ethics and integrity and to protect the intellectual rights of authors. This service responds to the needs of those willing to prevent plagiarism, fraud and misconduct. It also protects copyright and the intellectual rights of authors across the country and paves the way for free access to information for all. As a result, this service contributes to the healthy growth of science and technology in Iran.

The similarity-check system conduct automatic searches in the full-text of research documents in the Iran Scientific Information Database (Ganj) and on the Web and identifies documents with similarity. It then delivers a prompt report on the sources used in the manuscripts as well as parts with overlaps and similarities.

Based on the MSRT Regulations (2016), all universities, higher education institutes, both governmental and non-governmental affiliated with or supervised by the MSRT, "must" conduct similarity-check before approving students' research proposals and before their viva (dissertation/thesis defense).

To use the similarity-check system, all the faculty members of the MSRT institutes need to first register in the system. In so doing, they should be introduced by their corresponding institutes to this system. Having done that, they may upload their students’ manuscripts and shortly after that they will get a prompt similarity-check report. They also have the choice to introduce their student to this system and let them see the report.

The similarity-check system also can be used by all journals, conferences as well as scientific/academic book publishers. To use this system, they need to register and upload any types of manuscripts. This will assure them about the originality of the works and help them to protect copyright.
