Success factors in research activities based on the experiences of top researchers

Abstract

purpose: The purpose of this study is to obtain the opinions and experiences of top researchers about micro and macro factors affecting their success in research.
Methodology: The study population included all employed and retired faculty members of the University of Isfahan, 40 of whom were selected based on purposive sampling and snowball method. In order to know the opinions, semi-structured interviews were conducted in person. Findings were analyzed in three stages of open, axial and selective coding using MAXQDA 2020 qualitative data analysis software.
Findings: The items mentioned by the participants in the interviews as effective factors on the success of the research field can be classified based on the frequency and consequently the importance of each in four concepts: Factors related to faculty members; Factors related to the university; Factors related to students; And Humanities factors, each of which has components.
Conclusion: Familiarity with the experiences of top researchers about the strengths and weaknesses of human and organizational factors affecting the university, in addition to developing a vision to determine the policies of the University of Isfahan, can serve as a model for others for more accurate planning and more knowledge.
