Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study was to calculate the value of Iranian articles on chemistry based on their citation scores. Moreover, it was aimed to identify the association between the number of citations and the location of citations in papers.
Methodology: This research is a descriptive study in which a scientometric method (citation analysis) was used to investigate the Iranian chemistry articles, indexed in WOS. The study population included 11035 citations to 517 Iranian chemistry publications which were published in 176 journals in 2010. To identify the association between the number of citations and the value of citation location, Spearman correlation coefficient was used.
Findings: Findings show that the majority of articles were cited in introduction, followed by methodology and findings/discussion sections. The majority of papers (86.55%) acquired the lowest value (0.15-1) regarding citation locations. There was a significant positive correlation between the number of citations and the value of citation locations (r=0.78).
Conclusion: Results show that citation location can evaluate the impact and quality of documents better than the number of citations it receives. Number of citations can be a good predictor for the value of citation locations.
